THE RANKING

SYSTEM OF

P K S

Boot:

Many who begin training in PKS come from a background in martial arts. To honor one's past experience, we do not refer to the new student as a novice, but rather as a "boot". It is PKS boot camp. This student is preparing to walk the PKS path. Another thought is that as we prepare to walk the path, a good pair of boots is essential to (build a foundation).

MEDIO:

This is the soldier. Learning honor and advancing his or her physical skills. Medio represents a range in weapon use, which is between largo(long range) and corto (close range). This mediun range suggests some knowledge in all ranges, and an ability to transition between them. The soldier is being tested by fire.

SALT:

This is the sergeant. Already a proven soldier, and now able to assist those under him or her while he or she continues to learn advanced skills. As a Salt, he or she starts discovering unique applications of PKS that may apply to his or her body type, etc. Salt; Old Salt; Salty Dog... this one is battle tested, but standing valiant on the path.

INSTRUCTOR:

Officer material. The Instructor, while serving as a Salt, has successfully demonstrated his or her complete knowledge of the PKS program, and the ability to teach others along the way. An Instructor is not a master of PKS, since each has his or her strengths and weaknesses, but he or she should be able to teach the entire program. Honor is an essential characteristic of the PKS Instructor.
